I promise I would redo my “I saw Patton Oswalt live” piece again at some point. I really can’t bring myself to write it all out now, so I’ll just tell you the good bits. I went to see him live at The Keswick Theater in Glenside PA. It was the same place I saw Stephen Wright last year. I went alone in my Zoot Suit, which drew a lot of looks of course, but I always have a blast wearing the damn thing. I was in the 5th row center, if you’ve ever been to the Keswick you’ll understand how damn close that is, considering the first four rows are fold up chairs.
He was in full form, doing all his new bits, revisiting some old ones(especially KFC because of the new double down sandwhich, look it up). Highlight of the night for me was triggering a bit. Now before I go on, I have to address my inner conflict about heckling. Patton’s one of those people who if you time the shout just right, you get pure gold. Listen to Werewolves and Lolipops, and try to tell me that isn’t some of the funniest shit you’ve ever heard. At the same time I don’t want to be a douchenozzle, so what to do? Well he didn’t get angry at my shout, in fact I think he expected it, and he did rip the guys who tried after me. Anyways he was doing a piece about how his grandmother(who had been”cursed with life”) finally died and there was this silence. “YEA!!!” shouted the jackass in the zootsuit; what followed was a 10 minute rant about how the guy in the zoot suit killed his grandma in the grand arena. It can’t really be quoted but it was one of the funniest bits in the show and I’m glad to have triggered it even if I forever lost a piece of my comedy soul.
The other bit that stood out was the comedy magician piece. I think I found a youtube video of it, but no idea if it will get taken down or not so watch it here while you can.
So I guess I did rewrite the thing, oh well, enjoy my doctored photos of the evening, if you want real ones I suppose you could twitter me and I’d get them to you.
